The DIY Man For Chinese New Year

Well, this week is the final stage of CNY cleaning and decorating. While sis and mom was struggling with their little confectionery, I am working tirelessly on the ladder - doing some wiring for the lanterns and toasting myself in the hot sun doing some paintjob. We had a firecracker micro flashing lamps with 8 functions chasing controller powered with a mere 2.5A. Besides the firecracker micro lamps, I need to power up 2 bulbs to be enclosed in a double strawberry shaped lantern suspended...

Sorrow Via the Webcam

Is Chinese New Year, and I'm still stuck in here. Air ticket sold so fast like hot cakes. I did my ticket hunting in November, and the tix are all booked up till January. Even February's tix is scarce and pricey. I think i am gonna miss this CNY trip home again this year. Meet up with my cousins via the webcam. Chat about camera. Feeling really homesick while chatting with them. Sis and mom, everyone in the house enjoying the holiday season while I am sitting ducks in my quiet room in a...

Sugarcaned Closing

For the Hokkiens, yesterday was the last day of the Chinese New year celebration although the actual period was 15 days for other Chinese clans. The evening before the prayers at midnight, I will help...

Plymothian Gong Xi

2007 was the dullest CNY I ever had - no gatherings, no potlucks, no dine-ins, no photo shoots, no memories. I only got my mandarin oranges, some CNY tong-tong-chang mp3 songs, an IDD call card to call home, 'xin nian kuai le' wishes from Chinese friends when clock strikes 12 midnight, and a complementary angpow (red packets) worth £20 from boss to cure my CNY homesickness. And yet, for the first time in Plymouth, the Chinese community was allowed to organise an open-air celebration in the...

恭喜发财!!

新年快乐 people! Seems like I'm gonna be celebrating CNY away from home again for 2 years now. Damn, I hate the feel as CNY was my the only festivities that meant so much for me. Been growing up in a traditional family where the CNY season is a much awaited season, although the downside is splurging lotsa money buying new clothings or stuffs. The best part was the spring cleaning and helping parents with the chores which I never miss taking part doing it voluntarily. Dig those?...
