Canon EFS 55-250mm f/4-5.6 IS

c55250mmThis lens is a baby from my baby! I have been eyeing this ever since I was in the UK, but can’t effort it just yet as I just spoilt myself for some other DSLR treats. This lens came to me like a candy on my birthday.

Well, why is this lens a best selling lens especially in Malaysia? It is because Canon EF-S 55-250mm f/4-5.6 IS lens is a small, and light telephoto zoom with a long focal length range.

It matches many other zoom lens that are meant for general purpose uses. For those who don’t know, this lens only mounts well on Canon APS-C/1.6x FOVCF body.

What makes it superior that it is the first EF-S lens that is longer than the 85mm. The only thing that looks cheap on this lens is the build quality which looks rather plasticly.

Besides that, the focus ring is also not as its best as it is not the smoothest available. The zoom ring is quite stiff to begin with.

At the beginning I thought it was a mechanical fault but after doing some follow-ups online, I only come to believe that it was naturally that tight.  There is no focus limiting switch, no zoom lock, no distance window, not even a date code.

The IS does not work for me as it does not freeze moving objects in low shutter speed. Therefore, I am not dependable on it as I have a tripod to complement it.

Overall, the quality that was shot using Canon EF-S 55-250mm f/4-5.6 IS is crisp and sharp. I have not detected any vignetting in any focal length, perhaps minimal beyond recognition. This lens is a must have for amateurs, entry levels and those who are tightly on budget.
